Design

Before I started building guitars, I bought and resold them for over ten years. It was usually something I did on the side. But, when the great recession hit in 2008-9, it was all I did.

Buying and selling put a lot of different guitars in my hands over the years. It gave me intimate experience with what worked and what didn't in design, both in terms of sound and durability, as well as aging.

The vintage-style guitars sounded great and had a nice patina, but weren't durable. While the more modern designs held up well, but their sound was somewhat lifeless, compared to their counterparts.

I try to combine those things together in the guitars we make. The vintage sound and style comes from being handmade with solid woods, while the durability comes from modern, more precise tooling, Ultra-Violet Cured Finishes and more advanced construction materials.

Along the way, I've learned a few things about what works and what doesn't work. This trial and error process, over many years, has accumulated to a few specific tweaks that give Owasso Guitars their own unique flavor.

Heavy-Duty Kerfing

Strong Rim
Using stronger sides, the guitar is less structurally dependent on the top and back. Which means, a guitar with a stronger rim needs less bracing on the outer edges of the top.
The added weight where the top and back join to the sides also increases volume and projection (a little).
